Through www.findagrave.com, I found the "State Road" cemetery in Marcellus, Onondaga County, New York, which is the first county south of Cleveland. The cemetery is located just west of the intersection of Route 174 and State Road 20 atop of a hill once owned by the "Baker Family." The cemetery is abandoned and only one monument is reported to remain. (Find A Grave link)
James Townsend is also linked to the "State Road Church." This was the third Presbyterian Church built in Marcellus on State Road (now U.S. Route 20). The church lasted about 20 years (Wikipedia link). In March 2013, I contacted the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church in Marcellus, NY and was advised that no records are available (Church link).

* There is some speculation that James is the son of Henry Townsend (about 1797-before 1840). This Henry was married to Laura Graves (1799 - 1830/1840) and they had four children (but possibly more) to include James, Baxter (abt 1821-?), Eliza (1826-?), and Simeon (1830-1913). According to this research, Henry's parents might have been Absalom Townsend (before 1765-about 1819) and Alice (before 1765-?).
DNA testing has matched me to a descendant of Simeon Townsend. This line is linked to Richard (of the three original Oyster Bay brothers).
* Another researcher believes James is the son of Charles Townsend (22 Jan 1786 in Canada - ?) and Mary Haseltine (1794 - 10 March 1833). They believe Charles and Mary had 10 children to include this James.
James was born in LeRay, Jefferson County, New York. The following are census records for Jefferson county in 1820, 1830, and 1840.
