Obituary
Daniel Gordon Ongie passed peacefully but unexpectedly at his home in Apopka, Florida on September 16, 2015. Dan was born on January 22, 1967 in Ontonagon, Michigan to Gordon D. Ongie and Evelyn J. (Townsend) Tepsa.
Dan graduated with the class of 1985 from White Pine High School in White Pine, Michigan.
Following graduation, Dan served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate, Submarine Warfare Qualified, Master Training Specialist and Nuclear Mechanical Operator/Instructor. He was attached to the USS Aspro out of Pearl Harbor, HI, earning a Battle Ribbon during Operation Desert Shield. He served as an instructor at Nuclear Power School, Orlando, Florida. Following his honorable discharge, Dan earned a Bachelor of Science, Applied Science from Thomas Edison, Orlando and worked as a Systems Administrator at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL until the time of his death.
Dan is survived by his beloved children Danielle and Garrett. He is also survived by his close friend Katie Sanchez and her daughter Mary Katherine as well as by his former wife Kelly Christie Ongie. Other survivors include siblings Randy (Claranne), Ball Ground, GA, Cindy Zbaracki, Burnsville, MN, Linda (George) Beck, Hurley, WI and Patty (Toni) Mialki, Madison, AL.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his sister Ann, in infancy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 1:30 PM at Journey Church, Apopka, FL. Waldon Funeral Home is assisting the family.
