From Missouri Archives: Edward Lewis built a home six miles west of Fredricktown in the Creek Nation community, where he had purchased 100 acres of land. In his early 20's he had gone to California and worked on the railroad, saved enough money to build his farm. Later he purchased an additional 60 acres, adjoining his land, from Mr. Lee .... who had been living on it at the time of purchase. He built a 2-room house on his farm. Later, as the family increased, he added other rooms until he had and 8-room house. He lived in this house 51 years.
