- Fannie S. Boyd (nee Strick), 86 of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Maple Glen, PA, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Bradley Bay Health Center, Bay Village, OH. Mrs. Boyd was born August 2, 1923 in Roulette, PA and had lived in St. Petersburg, FL the past 30 years.
Mrs. Boyd was a 1941 graduate of Coudersport High School in Pennsylvania and earned her nursing degree from the Williamsport Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Upon completion of nursing school she began her career as a private duty nurse, also working at Coudersport Hospital and Abington Hospital, outside of Philadelphia. In St. Petersburg she continued her career as a nurse to Dr. Douglas Hood and completed her nursing career at the age of 85 with the Suncoast Hospice, where she worked for the past 19 years. Fannie was devoted to caring for those at the end of their lives. Fannie was well-renowned for her energy and enthusiasm. The past seven years she battled cancer twice, while returning to her beloved nursing each time.
While living in Maple Glen, PA, Mrs. Boyd was a member of the Supplee Memorial Church and in Florida, The Pass- A-Grille Beach Community Church, St. Pete Beach. In addition she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Eulalia Chapter, Coudersport, PA. Mrs. Boyd was described by her family as one who loved being a nurse as evident by her 65 year career. She also very much enjoyed traveling.
Mrs. Boyd is survived by daughter Betsy McKinney (Roger) of Bay Village and son David Boyd (Debbie) of Acworth, GA; grandchildren Davis (Laura), Stuart and Claire McKinney and Andrew and Elizabeth Boyd. She is also survived by her former husband Henry Boyd. She is preceded in death by her parents Clair and Josephine (nee Conrad) Strick.
A memorial service will be held at the Pass-A-Grille Community Church, St. Pete Beach, FL, on Saturday April 10th, 2010 at 10am.
