James K. ‘Jim’ Maupin, age 83, Joplin passed away at 3:17 a.m. Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Freeman West Hospital.
Jim was born November 3, 1922 in Washington, Missouri to the late James C. Maupin and Mable King Maupin and had lived in Joplin since 1955. He retired in 1992 from Missouri Southern State College as Dean of Technology where he had been employed for 37 years. He was a member of the Webb City Rotary Club; Joplin Elk’s Lodge #501; the Joplin Rifle and Pistol Club; life member of the National Rifle Association; and the Tri-State Retired Officers Association. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. He received several awards and citations including the Purple Heart; the Silver Star; and the Bronze Star. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter.
He married Colene L. Anderson on September 9, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a son, Jim Maupin and his wife, Sandra, Richland, Washington; two daughters, Jane L. Baine, Joplin, and Nancy Wilder and husband, Ken, Joplin; one brother, Charles Maupin, Kansas City, Missouri; nine granddaughters; and 15 great grandchildren.
Jim has been taken for cremation. Interment of cremains will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial services will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends following the services at Parker Mortuary.
