Rush Upton Albright, 84 years of age, departed this life on December 19th, 1965, He was born in Lamar, Missouri on September 28th, 1880. He was one of nine children born to Samuel and Rosa Edwards Albright.
He joined the Company C, 2nd Missouri Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish American War, along with his brother Irvin Albert Albright. He also served several months in the Philippine Islands in 1900.
After returning home to civilian life, he drove horse & buggy delivering papers for the family store - Albright's News and Cigar in Joplin, Missouri. He was the husband of Fannie Louisa Cook, a native of Carhampton, England, whom he married in September of 1906. They were married for 59 years and had had six children; Guy, Daisybelle, Zella, Thomas, Roy and Nina. Zella and Thomas both died at an early age.
In 1922 Rush and his family moved to California and settled in Sacramento where he worked as the Manager of Piggly Wiggly Market for several years. He was also a salesman for the Coca Cola Company and later went on to own and manage his own grocery store, Albright's Grocery.
He served as commander of the United Spanish War Veterans, J. Holland Laidler Camp No. 5 in Sacramento, California and held that post until his death. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Missouri.
He was buried at East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Sacramento, California.
